Product Overview
AGLIME Agricultural Limestone
Aglime is finely ground limestone used to adjust soil pH and improve nutrient availability in agricultural and land management settings. By neutralizing acidic soils, it helps create conditions where crops and plants can more effectively absorb applied nutrients. Agricultural lime is naturally alkaline, typically measuring between pH 7 and 8.5, but when applied to soil its role is to move acidic soils toward a balanced range where plant growth performs best. Performance depends on particle size, application rate, and existing soil conditions.
Why This Material Works
Agricultural lime is composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and magnesium carbonate (MgCO₃), naturally alkaline minerals that react with acidic soils to moderate pH levels. While the material itself measures above neutral, its purpose is not to make soil highly basic, but to bring acidic soils closer to a balanced range where nutrients are more accessible to plants. Most crops perform best when soil pH falls between roughly 6.0 and 7.0, with some crops such as alfalfa benefiting from slightly higher levels near 6.8. By gradually neutralizing excess acidity, aglime helps stabilize soil chemistry and improve the effectiveness of fertilizers and naturally occurring nutrients. Finer particle sizing increases the surface area of the material, allowing it to react more efficiently with the soil while supporting longer-term soil balance.
